Inspection reports detail more on terror suspect’s Missouri stops
An inspection report obtained by ABC 17 News gives more details about a terror suspect’s stop in Missouri.
The reports show Saipov was arrested at a scale house in Foristell, about an hour east of Columbia, due to a warrant for his arrest out of Platte County. The report shows Saipov was on his way to Independence, Missouri from Cordele, Georgia – a nearly 14-hour drive – to transport insecticides for Bayer.
Sayfullo Saipov faces federal charges related to the killing of 8 people in New York City on Tuesday. Saipov allegedly drove a rental truck onto a bicycle path in Manhattan. Federal agents say Saipov admitted to them that he was inspired by the Islamic State to attack people.
ABC 17 News reported on Tuesday that Saipov received a ticket for bad brakes in late 2015 at a Platte County scale house while driving through Missouri. Prosecutors filed a warrant for his arrest in April when Saipov didn’t pay for the ticket, and the Highway Patrol arrested him in October for that warrant.
New records obtained show Saipov was driving to Billings, Montana when cited at the Platte County scale house. The inspection report said he was taking “automotive additives” there from Lakeland, Florida for Smith Transportation Services, Inc.
While a traffic ticket is a minor offense, his stops and interactions may come under scrutiny during the investigation in New York, former Missouri Office of Homeland Security director Paul Fennewald told ABC 17 News earlier this week.
Saipov paid a $200 cash bond after his arrest in St. Charles County, court records show. That cash was applied to his fine after he pleaded guilty to the charge for faulty brakes in Nov. 2016.
The inspection report for the 2015 stop in Platte County shows Saipov was working for All States Trucking, LLC. Saipov worked for IIK Transport, Inc. during the 2016 trek, according to that report.
