LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Higher than usual turnout has marked a parliamentary election in Slovenia, reflecting strong voter interest in the race between the ruling right-wing populist party of Prime Minister Janez Jansa and the opposition green-liberals in the European Union nation. Nearly 50% of Slovenia’s 1.7 million voters had cast ballots by mid-afternoon, according to state election authorities. This means that some 15% more voters turned up at the polling stations compared with the previous election in 2018. Observers have predicted a tight race between the ruling conservative Slovenian Democratic Party and the newcomer Freedom Movement, which led the polls ahead of the vote for the 90-member legislature.
