Clarification: Cancer Blood Test story

In a story published April 11, 2022, The Associated Press reported that Food and Drug Administration review isn’t required for certain cancer blood tests. The story should have made clear that FDA authorization, clearance or approval of such tests is required by law. However, the agency historically has not enforced most regulatory requirements for tests that are designed, manufactured and used within a single laboratory.
