Mizzou basketball announces exhibition game with Kansas

COLUMBIA – The Mizzou men’s basketball team will play Kansas for the first time since Feb. 25, 2012. The Tigers and Jayhawks will play an exhibition game Sunday Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Sprint Center to raise money for hurricane relief funds.

Mizzou student tickets will be available Tuesday Oct. 17. Members of the Tiger Scholarship Fund will have the opportunity to purchase tickets from the Mizzou allotment first. Any remaining tickets from Mizzou’s allotment go on sale starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18. Both schools will split the approximately 18,000 seats at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.

Kansas head coach Bill Self confirmed in a press conference Friday that the two teams would play an exhibition game Oct. 22. He reaffirmed that he does not want to play Mizzou during the regular season due to the Tigers leaving the Big 12 in 2012. However, he said an exhibition game is different.

Self said he expects the event to raise more than one million dollars for hurricane relief.

Mizzou head coach Cuonzo Martin said, “The opportunity to use the platform of college basketball to help so many people in need is the most important aspect of this event.”

Carrington Harrington of 610 Sports first reported discussions were taking place.
