Man charged with possession of a controlled substance, accused of throwing drugs out car window

A man was charged with possession of a controlled substance after Sedalia police performed a traffic stop on a car with an expired license.

According to the probable cause statement, when police approached the vehicle the driver was cooperative with police but George Johnson, the passenger, was hiding his right hand.

Police said during the interaction with the driver, Johnson attempted to open his door multiple times, at one point stepping out of the vehicle.

Police said officers demanded Johnson get back in the vehicle and put his hands on the dashboard.

Johnson got out of the vehicle again and walked slowly to the east, near a large tree, and then back towards the vehicle, officers said.

Police said they asked the driver if they could search him and the car. The driver agreed to let police search him but not his vehicle.

Officers asked Johnson why he got out of the car. He told them he had gotten nervous.

Police said they performed a search on Johnson and found nothing.

Police said they let the vehicle go but later found marijuana, cocaine and pills, that were suspected to be ecstasy, where the car had been and near the tree, toward which Johnson had walked.

Officers said they watched the patrol car footage and saw some plastic bags being thrown out of the car by Johnson.

According to the probable cause statement, Johnson is a documented flight risk and has been arrested on prior occasions and is a member/former member of a gang.
