Columbia Public Health and Human Services receives first quarterly PDMP report

The St. Louis County Department of Public Health’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) has released its first quarterly report to the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services (PHHS).

The report covers prescriptions filled by Columbia residents in all 14 Missouri jurisdictions participating in the PDMP from April through June 2017.

The report shows that all Columbia pharmacies are in compliance with PDMP reporting requirements.

A total of 90 percent of pharmacies across the 14 jurisdiction are in compliance.

From the report period of April through June 2017, Columbia residents had higher dispensation rates for schedule II-IV controlled substances. These include Codeine, morphine, OxyContin, Xanax, Vicodin, Adderall and Valium, among others.

However, PHHS Director Stephanie Browning is hesitant to generalize this report to Columbia dispensation trends. “Since this is only one quarter of information, the findings are not necessarily indicative of average dispensing practices in the city of Columbia,” she said.

Columbia females over the age of 25 had higher controlled substance dispensation rates than males.

Among the controlled substances, opioids were the most commonly filled prescriptions across all 14 jurisdictions and Columbia.
