MODOT announces Oct. 15-21 as Commercial Vehicle Safety week

MODOT announced on Wednesday that next week will be Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Operation Safe Driver Week.

Next week law enforcement agencies will identify and issue warnings and/or citations to commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger-vehicle drivers exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors on roadways.

Law enforcement officers will be looking for speeding, distracted driving, texting, failure to use a seat belt, traveling too closely, improper lane change and failure to obey traffic control devices.

MODOT crews said commercial motor vehicles make up 20 percent of all traffic on Missouri’s interstates.

There were 132 people killed and more than 4,000 injured in Missouri traffic crashes involving a commercial motor vehicle in 2016, MODOT crews said.
