Cold front to bring storms and cooler weather into Tuesday

MONDAY: Dense fog has been slow to lift this morning, but with warming temperatures we’ll see it disperse by noon. Mostly sunny skies are expected through the rest of the day as temperatures quickly warm into the lower 80s. We’ll continue to see humid conditions as winds out of the southeast up to 10 mph pump in more moisture. We stay dry and summer like today, with an increasing chance for storms as we head into the evening hours.

TONIGHT: It will be a stormy night across Mid-Missouri, as a cold front tracks through the region. Most of the moisture associated with the system will be tracking out of the Rockies, so the front will clear Mid-Missouri before the bulk of the storms arrive. Storms will become widespread after midnight, increasing from the west. No severe weather is expected tonight, but there could be a few strong storms as the low associated with the front tracks just to our south. Winds will be out of the north tonight up to 11 mph.

EXTENDED: The widespread storms increase as we head through the day Tuesday. There is a marginal risk for a small portion of Mid-Missouri through Tuesday. This risk comes as a low tracks parallel to Interstate 44 through the day Tuesday. Main threats will be the potential for hail and damaging winds. Despite all of Mid-Missouri seeing the widespread rain, the heaviest amounts look to be north of Interstate 70. Up to an inch is possible, with areas seeing .25″ -.50″ the further south you go. Following the cold front, we’ll see a brief shot of fall air as highs climb into the 60s both Tuesday and Wednesday, with overnight lows near the upper 40s. By Wednesday night, we’ll see a return of southerly winds and temperatures will rapidly warm into the 70s and 80s throughout the rest of the week. The summer pattern looks to once again be challenged as we head into next weekend, as a frontal boundary looks to bring another shot of storms and cooler conditions.
