Tracking more severe storms tonight, with high winds and flooding the primary risk

TONIGHT: Another round of storms is expected this evening, with the main threats being damaging winds and flooding. As of 2:30 pm, storms are already beginning to fire off in northwestern Missouri, and are looking to track eastward into the northern portion of the viewing area by 4-5 pm tonight. Central Missouri looks to be impacted around 6-7 pm, while southern counties will begin to hear thunder around 8 or 9 pm tonight. 60-70 mph wind gusts are possible with these storms across the viewing area, though most of the initial threat looks to be along and north of I-70. Flash flooding will also be a significant risk tonight. Most of the initial storms should be cleared out by 10-11 pm tonight, but a second round looks to impact areas south of I-70 overnight.

TOMORROW: As a stationary front slowly tracks southward over the course of the evening, more storms are expected to form along its edge. While the severe threat is much lower with these storms, flooding will be a major risk, as areas along and south of I-70 will receive a significant amount of rainfall, which which will compound a flooding threat that already exists. These storms are looking to fire off around 11 pm to midnight, continuing into the afternoon tomorrow. While these storms are primarily isolated to our southern counties, some counties in the central and eastern parts of the viewing area could see rainfall in the late morning to early afternoon. Much of the rain should be gone by 2-3 pm, leaving a dry evening.

EXTENDED: After three straight days of thunderstorms, next week looks to be calm and dry. High pressure takes over once the storms finally pass, leaving plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will continue to be in the mid to upper 80s next week, though low humidity will keep heat indexes down. A slight chance of rain is in the cards on Tuesday and Wednesday, though the threat isn't much past a light, short-lived shower. Much of the area should expect to stay dry this week with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies.
