City of Columbia holds public meeting over parking garage gate arms

An informal, open-house meeting was held Tuesday in Columbia over the installation of access-control gate arms in the city’s downtown parking garages.

The City of Columbia Public Works Department hosted the meeting, which was part of the city’s routine public involvement process.

At the meeting, ABC 17 News spoke with the city’s transit parking manager, Drew Brooks. He says “It helps us to make decisions about whether we need additional parking structures, because there’s perhaps some misconceptions about what the parking needs are for the city, so this is certainly going to help us with that information.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2018 and last for 3-6 months. It is expected to cost $930,000.
