Harrisburg School District offers counseling after deadly school bus crash

The Harrisburg School District will offer extra support to students affected after teacher and coach Brian Simpson was killed in a deadly bus crash on Thursday.

According to the district, the supports include on-site grief counselors and private areas for middle or high school students to receive counseling. Students will also be able to leave class for some quiet, if necessary.

There will be grief counselors available to all elementary students and specific counselors will be assigned to fourth grade classrooms.

Each grade had an assembly Tuesday morning.

The district will let classes out early to accommodate those who want to attend Simpson’s funeral at 2 p.m. at the Crossing church in Columbia.

“It is important for all students to try and attend school tomorrow (Tuesday) in order to continue the healing process,” said the district.
