Columbia man arrested, accused of slapping child’s face

Columbia police arrested Barry Chambers after a school resource officer at Hickman High School received information about an assault that happened in the 5000 block of Baseline Place.

Police said that the SRO received information that a student had been assaulted.

Police said the SRO observed the victim had a blood spot on the inside of their left eye on Sept. 29.

The victim told officers they had a verbal argument with Chambers on Sept. 26.

The victim told officers Chambers slapped them with an open hand of the left side of the face multiple times with enough force to cause the blood spot in their eye.

Chambers was arrested on Monday and faces possible charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
