UPDATE: St. Louis woman charged after leading Maries County authorities on high speed chase
UPDATE 9/13: Girard has been charged with driving while revoked/suspended, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, exceeding the posted speed limit of 26 or more, failure to stop at a stop sign, operating a vehicle and failing to maintain financial responsibility and failure to register motor vehicle annually with the DOR.
ORIGINAL STORY: According to a Facebook post, Maries County authorities were traveling on Highway 68 near St. James when they were illegally passed by a Toyota Avalon.
The vehicle illegally passed and ran several motorcycles and another vehicle off the road.
Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle when it accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle passed on the left shoulder and nearly struck several vehicles.
The pursuit traveled onto east bound I-44. Maries County Deputy Greg Andrews then struck the vehicle with his patrol car, pushing the vehicle into the ditch.
The driver, Candace C. Girard, 28, of St. Louis, fled on foot but was caught. Authorities also detained a passenger in the vehicle.
Girard did not have a valid driver’s license and also had a warrant for her arrest from St. Louis.
