Missouri Planned Parenthood clinic receives abortion license
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services issued Planned Parenthood Great Plains a license to perform abortion procedures at Midtown Kansas City Health Center.
The organization also is expected to receive a license for surgical and medication abortions at its Columbia clinic in the next few days. Director of Communications for Planned Parenthood Great Plains Boyen Lee-Gilmore said Tuesday morning a license for Columbia could be issued “any minute now.” She said the license in Columbia will cover surgical and nonsurgical procedures.
The announcement came after a judge overturned restrictions to the practice in the state of Missouri. Applications for licenses for clinics Springfield and Joplin are under review by the Department of Human and Senior Services.
The Midtown KC health center began scheduling appointments for the nonsurgical procedures Monday. Lee-Gilmore said the center decided to give patients a week to schedule appointments, so they will be held starting Sept. 18.
