Mid-Missouri’s response to Hurricane Irma: Mizzou, Task Force One, Ameren and more

Officials in Mid-Missouri are sending assistance to Florida as Hurricane Irma continues to track toward the southern portion of the state.

Dave Griffith, the executive director of the local Red Cross chapter in mid-Missouri, confirms to ABC 17 News that they’ve sent 11 people to Florida. Additionally, five members of Missouri’s Task Force One have been deployed in order to serve on FEMA’s Urban Search and Rescue Response System Incident Support Team.

According to the Boone County Fire Protection District, all five task force members deployed come from the mid-Missouri area. One is from Jefferson City, another is from the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District and three more are from Boone County. One member is in Puerto Rico, another is in the Virgin Islands and the other three are in Florida or en route to Florida.

In addition to Red Cross and Task Force One assistance, the University of Missouri says they are in the process of reaching out to students whose families may be affected by the hurricane.

In an email to ABC 17 News, a spokesperson says “it will be similar to what we sent to those students who were affected by Harvey.”

Furthermore, Ameren Missouri confirms 125 coworkers left for Orlando this morning. They will assist Florida utilities in the path of Hurricane Irma.
