Columbia shares plans to improve Carter Lane by adding sidewalks
Columbia leaders held an open house Wednesday for the public to learn more about a planned south city improvement project.
A five-foot wide sidewalk is scheduled to be added next year along the east side of Carter Lane from Huntridge Drive to Foxfire Drive. Another sidewalk would be added to connect the Carter Lane crosswalk to the bus stop on the east side of Providence Road.
Engineering supervisor Allison Anderson said the improvements are needed to keep up with heavy pedestrian traffic.
“We have students that are walking and also there’s residential areas behind there, so we have residents walking to get to the different stores that are on Green Meadows,” said Anderson.
City staff said upgrading the sidewalk will also help keep people safe.
The project is expected to cost $349,870 and will be funded by the MoDOT Transportation Alternatives Program and the 2015 Capital Improvement sales tax.
