Old Munichburg plans postponed by Jefferson City Council

Plans for a Jefferson City neighborhood were postponed Tuesday night.

The City Council indefinitely suspended the revitalization plans for the Old Munichburg district neighborhood in order to make sure state regulations are being followed first.

“The next step is to ensure that we have all the ducks in order and to pass this and to start our progress on this plan,” said 2nd Ward Councilman Rick Mihalevich.

The Historic Southside, Old Munichburg District and Neighborhood Plan aims to improve housing, infrastructure and safety, among other things.

Despite the postponement, Janet Weckenborg, vice president of operations at Capital Region Medical Center, said the hospital is excited for the plan to get to this stage.

“Anytime that you can take the assets of an area and make them real, and take advantage of that, that’s in the best interest of the city and the folks that live there, so we appreciate that,” said Weckenborg.

Capital Region Medical Center hired consulting firm 3H Studios to help in the planning process for the neighborhood.

“It’s a great example of a business that cares about the entire community and how they can do their part to make it better, so thank you for the investment on behalf of what the hospital has done,” Mayor Carrie Tergin told Weckenborg.

Central Missouri Community Action also offered its support and services to help the plan come to fruition.
