UPDATE: MSHP Labor Day counting period ends: Numbers to show more DWI and BWI arrests

UPDATE 11 a.m.: The Missouri State Highway Patrol released its final numbers from the Labor Day weekend counting period.

MSHP troopers investigated 317 traffic crashes starting from 6 p.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday. Eight of those crashes involved fatalities.

Troopers made 136 driving while intoxicated arrests and 128 on-the-road drug-related arrests.

On the water, troopers investigated six boating crashes, none fatal, and one drowning.

Troopers made 17 boating while intoxicated arrests and 35 on-the-water drug-related arrests.

Highway Patrol Troopers in Troop F, which covers most of mid-Missouri, investigated 50 traffic crashes and one fatality.

Troop F troopers made 11 DWI arrests and 12 drug-related arrests.

ORIGINAL: During peak travel holiday periods, such as Labor Day weekend, the Missouri State Highway Patrol increases enforcement and records the number of traffic crashes, boating crashes, driving while intoxicated arrests made and more.

The final numbers from the Labor Day weekend counting period are not yet available; the counting period ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday; but online traffic crash reports and arrest reports are available.

ABC 17 News looked through the online records starting from 6 p.m. Friday, when the counting period started, through 11:59 p.m. Monday.

MSHP Troop F troopers investigated at least four traffic crashes during the weekend. One of those crashes involved a fatality. Troopers statewide investigated at least 93 traffic crashes, seven of which resulted in fatalities.

Troop F troopers made at least 11 DWI arrests, five boating while intoxicated arrests and 13 drug-related arrests.

In 2016, troopers statewide investigated 293 traffic crashes, and 14 of those involved fatalities. Troopers made 100 DWI arrests and 12 BWI arrests.

The final counting period numbers for the 2017 Labor Day weekend will include traffic crashes, traffic and boating fatalities, DWI arrests, BWI arrests and drug-related arrests from all law enforcement agencies statewide.
