Warrant scam circulating Cole County
The Cole County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning about a warrant scam.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, suspects are calling residents and identifying themselves as a deputy. The scammers then tell the victims they have active warrants and have to pay with money orders or they will go to jail.
The sheriff’s department said this is a scam and people should not pay this money.
If residents have doubts, they can call the local police or sheriff’s departments.
The Sheriff’s Department said it does not call to tell people they have warrants. A deputy will show up at your door or come get you.
