Eclipse 2017 moved through Mid-Missouri

Eclipse 2017 is now part of history, but it’s a history Mid-Missourians now share together.

With a response worthy of a major sporting event or the rare natural event that is a total solar eclipse, a swath of our nation got an epic treat.

The only coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in many generations brought similar reactions from people in Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Nebraska. In all, 14 states including ours saw totality. The path moved right through Columbia, Jefferson City and a good part of Mid-Missouri before moving out east.

If you missed it and you’re not willing to travel the world to see the next one, you’ll need to wait until 2024. And you won’t be able to see it from Mid-Missouri. In 2024, you’ll need to be in Texas, Arkansas, the Bootheel of Missouri or the Northeast to see what most of us were all treated to on Monday.

If you had to be indoors on Monday or didn’t have your eclipse glasses, you can see a time-lapse video of what some folks waited a lifetime to see and won’t again in another lifetime or two, at least not from our neighborhood here in Mid-Missouri.
