Slight risk for severe storms this evening

Friday holds a chance for severe weather as we head into the evening. The severe threat has been increased to a slight risk for the majority of mid-Missouri’s western counties. Storms are set to fire up ahead of a weak cold front after 7 PM. Storms will slowly push to the southeast through the late evening to overnight hours.

These storms are looking fairly isolated to scattered in nature, so a good portion of mid-Missouri will see some dry time. With the storms that get going, we could see damaging winds and hail up to a quarter in size. Locally heavy rainfall could be possible depending on the track of the storms, ranging up to 0.5″.

High school football games could be impacted, but most games are looking remain dry. Areas to the northwest see the greatest chance for storms through the game time hours due to the fairly slow track of this system. The majority of the area will see storm chances increase once football games end. By early Saturday morning all of mid-Missouri will be dry, leading into a very warm, summer-like weekend.
