One person has died after emergency crews responded to a crash Friday evening just before 5 p.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened in the eastbound lanes of I-70 around mile marker 102 after a Volvo Conventional Tractor was unable to stop for congested traffic, as a result of another crash.

The vehicle hit two cars before the cab separated from the frame, eventually exiting the roadway, ending up on its side. The driver of the vehicle, 55-year-old Momchil I Petrov IV, was pronounced dead shortly after at University Hospital in Columbia.

The drivers of the two other cars involved suffered minor and moderate injuries and were both transported to University Hospital.

All three drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
