Back-to-School Food Drive underway for mid-Missouri

ABC 17 News is teaming up with the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri all week to fight hunger in mid-Missouri.

The Back-to-School Food Drive runs from July 31 through Aug. 4.

“The hunger epidemic is ongoing all year long,” said Dir. Lindsey Young Lopez on the importance of the food drive. “One in every six adults and one in every five children right here in this community is struggling with access to sufficient nutritious food. So, this really is a great way for us to build awareness.”

To donate, you can drop off cans of food and other nonperishable items at the Columbia Hy-Vee on West Broadway, Jefferson City Autoplex or Chapman Heating and Air Conditioning.

Cash donations go even farther. According to sharefoodbringhope.org, “Because of our affiliation with Feeding America and our ability to purchase bulk food at significantly reduced costs, we are able to purchase $21 worth of groceries with every $1 donated.”
