Heat peaks Wednesday, storms Wednesday night

TONIGHT: It will be muggy, as overnight lows will only drop into the lower 70s. Skies will remain mostly clear with winds out of the southeast under 6 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Most of Mid-Missouri is under a Heat Advisory from noon to 8 PM. It will be the hottest day this week as temperatures climb into the mid 90s with humidity also on the rise. The heat index will range from 103-107 in the afternoon with winds from the southwest at 6-10 mph. There is a chance of isolated storms in the afternoon but most storms will move in late Wednesday evening and overnight.

EXTE NDED: Storms will develop in northern Missouri by early evening, tracking southeast into Mid-Missouri as early as 10 PM near HWY 36. These will push to the southeast overnight through early morning Thursday, weakening as they do so. The bulk of the storms look to push through Mid-Missouri after midnight. There is a marginal severe threat along and north of HWY 50 Wednesday night for isolated damaging wind gusts which is the primary threat with a lower chance of large hail. Areas along and north of HWY 36 in northern Missouri are under a slight severe risk for a better chance of severe storms. Also, heavy rain is expected with some of the storms mainly north of I-70 and localized flooding is a possibility Wednesday night. Showers and storms will move out by noon Thursday but could re-develop south of I-70 in the afternoon due to the slow movement of the cold front. Rainfall amounts from Wednesday night through Thursday are expected to come in at a half inch to an inch north of I-70 with lower amounts south. Local amounts up to 2 inches are possible. High temperatures will cool back into the mid to upper 80s Thursday through the weekend with nights in the 60s.
