Some MU positions cut as Student Affairs undergoes major shakeup

Some administrative positions within the University of Missouri’s Division of Student Affairs are being eliminated as the department undergoes a major shakeup.

As ABC 17 News has previously reported, the Division of Student Affairs is moving more than 100 positions to the Division of Operations in an effort to save more than $1 million. The move also breaks down several administrative jobs.

ABC 17 News confirmed in an email that former Student Life Director Mark Lucas and former Residential Life Director Frankie Minor no longer work for the University of Missouri.

Additionally, Janna Basler’s name has been removed from the Student Life website. She most recently served as Associate Dean of Student Life.

Basler made national headlines back in 2015 when she was caught on camera confronting a student journalist during the protests on campus. In a text message to an ABC 17 News reporter, Basler said she is “trying to sort things out right now and provide a perspective that will be honest and insightful.” She added that she is not ready to comment at this time.

An MU spokesperson could not confirm which employees have been laid off. He said MU employees who are laid off will be given two weeks notice or two weeks pay in lieu of notice. He also said an individual will still be considered an employee within the system for two weeks.
