Tractor crash in Boone County leaves one dead

A Boone County man has died after an incident involving a tractor.

It happened in the 8900 block of East Ball Road, just outside of Centralia.

Fire officials said the man was in his 80’s and lived alone.

He appeared to be moving dirt on an older three-wheel tractor on a hillside when the vehicle overturned. He did not have a seat belt.

Fire officials said family members came home and found the man pinned underneath the tractor. He was pronounced dead when emergency responders arrived on the scene.

Fire officials said unfortunately, they see this type of farming incident occasionally.

According to the Occupation Safety and Health Administration, tractor overturns are the leading cause of death for farmers. About 130 people die each year from tractor overturns.
