Escaped prisoner charged in Phelps County
UPDATE 7/6: Christopher Hunt was caught on Wednesday in Lexington Kentucky by the U.S. Marshals.
ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities in Phelps County have charged a man who allegedly escaped custody and is still on the run.
Christopher Hunt is charged with escape from custody with a deadly weapon, dangerous instrument or by holding hostage.
Texas County deputies say Hunt was traveling to the county jail from Phelps County on June 26. He was able to talk a guard into pulling the vehicle over so he could vomit. When the officer opened the door, Hunt got out and threatened him. Hunt had freed himself from his leg and wrist restraints. He threatened to kill the guard if he interfered, and stole the van.
The van was found a short time later on County Road 6300 in Edgar Springs, Mo. Law enforcement officers launched a manhunt, but were unable to find Hunt.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on Hunt’s location to call 911 or the nearest law enforcement agency. Hunt has a violent history, and deputies are warning Phelps County residents to keep an eye out for him.
