17 year-old gunshot victim aided by neighbors

A 17 year-old that was shot near southwest Columbia was looked after by a neighborhood couple before emergency services arrived at Bethany drive.

Krystal and Albert Martin on the street where teens set off fireworks until someone pulled out a gun and shot the teen. The bullet hit him in the back while he was on a moped. The Boone County Sheriffs Department says the injury is not life-threatening and he is expected to survive.

The Martins immediately knew to help the teen as soon as they realized he had been shot with a gun and not a firework. He had walked over a block down Bethany drive before anyone offered to help.

Multiple neighbors Wednesday morning said they had no idea there was a gun fired last night because of the constant fireworks.
