Moniteau County releases mid-year crime numbers

The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office released its mid-year crime statistics on Friday.

Sheriff Tony Wheatley said more than 100 arrests have been made since the start of the year, while reported thefts, burglaries and property crimes have dropped.

The Sheriff’s Office is also making some extra money taking in more inmates.

Wheatley said in February, the office began holding inmates for outside agencies. In the first four months of doing this, the office made more than $61,000. That money has been put back into general revenue.

In the first half of the year, the county also had one homicide.

In June, ABC 17 news reported Matthew Hamm had been arrested after the remains of a baby were found at a home in Fortuna.

He’s charged with murder and abandoning a body.

On Tuesday, Judge Aaron J. Martin ordered all documents related to search warrants be closed to everyone but Hamm and his counsel until further notice.

Hamm has a case review scheduled for July 25.
