Windy afternoon, with storm chances increasing overnight Wednesday
TODAY: It’s slowly beginning to feel more like summer across Mid-Missouri, as the heat and humidity is on the rise. Temperatures this afternoon are already climbing into the upper 70s and will continue to climb another 10 degrees through the day. It will also be a breezy day, as winds will be out of the southeast up to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph in spots.
TONIGHT: This evening will start off on the mild side, with temperatures falling into the upper 60s and lower 70s. A cluster of storms is expected to develop on the Iowa/Missouri border and drift southward through the night. The latest trends weaken the line of storms significantly as it tracks into Mid-Missouri, but with some fuel in the atmosphere it’s possible these storms hold together through the night as they drift south. A slight chance of severe weather is possible, with damaging winds and large hail being our main threat. Any storms that we do see going through the night, will gradually weaken as they night progresses, with most of the activity staying north of I-70.
EXTENDED: The active weather pattern stays with Mid-Missouri as through the rest of the week, with plenty of rain and storms in the forecast. There is a chance for severe weather each day through Friday, as a cold front slowly tracks through Mid-Missouri. Morning storms are also possible each day, as a complex of storms, aided by the lower level jet, fires up each night in Nebraska/Iowa and drifts to the southeast. Rainfall amounts through the week will vary greatly depending upon location. Areas along and south of I-70 will likely only see up to an 1.5″ of rainfall, while those along and north of I-70 will see anywhere from 2-4″ of rainfall, with locally heavier amounts. Thankfully, this weekend looks dry as the cold front clears Mid-Missouri. However, as we head into next week the cold front lifts northward as a warm front, and sets the stage for another active start to the work week.
