Columbia man arrested for shooting on Rice Road

A man was arrested by Columbia Police officers on Tuesday morning after a shooting on the 4300 block of Rice Road on Monday night.

Joshua Michael McWilliams, 23, of Columbia, was arrested at the 4400 block of Stevendave for felony possession of a controlled substance with a $4,500 bond, misdemeanor violation of an order of protection with a $1,000 bond and misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon with a $500 bond.

Boone County Joint Communications received a call about a shooting in the 4300 block of Rice Road on Monday evening. The caller reported that McWilliams fried a gun in the area and then concealed the firearm in a nearby vehicle.

Officers got to the scene and found a single shell casing near the intersection of Boyd Lane and Rice Road. McWilliams was later found in the 4400 block of Stevendave near his home. Officers conducted a search of McWilliams’ residence and located a cartridge matching the spent cartridge casing found in the roadway as well as a felony amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
