Man arrested and charged after shooting on I-70 and Highway 63 connector in Columbia

UPDATE 6/27: According to a press release from the Columbia Police Department, detectives have arrested Denico Sanchez Crawley, 30, of Columbia, after yesterday’s double shooting on the I-70 and Highway 63 connector. The female victim, 22, and male victim, 25, are in stable condition.

Court documents said Crawley pulled up alongside the victims’ vehicle while both were merging onto I-70 from Business Loop. The victims said he fired several times toward he driver’s side of the victims’ vehicle. Both of the victims were hit multiple times.

Police said Crawley and the female victim were previously in an intimate relationship. Police said Monday’s incident was domestic and that Crawley was mad at the female victim for who she was dating.

According to police, Crawley was caught and detained within 45 minutes because of communtiy cooperation.

Officers found Crawley inside a vehicle in the 2900 block of Paris Road. When officers detained Crawley, they saw marijuana inside of the vehicle. Officers also searched the vehicle and found a baggie with 3.94 grams of cocaine wedged between the front passenger seat and the center console.

Crawley was arrested on Monday afternoon in the 2900 block of Paris Road for felony armed criminal action, felony unlawful use of a weapon, first degree felony domestic assault, first degree felony assault with bonds to be set by the Court and felony possession of a controlled substance with a $4500 bond.

UPDATE: Police say they have detained a possible suspect in Monday’s shooting.

ORIGINAL: Right now Columbia police are investigating a shooting that left two people with life-threatening injuries.

ABC 17 News is on scene in the 300 block of Brickton Road where police have put up crime tape near Verizon.

Police on scene say a man and woman in their mid-twenties suffered life-threatening injuries.

Someone called in Monday afternoon after hearing possible gunshots at the connector. Police say both vehicles then left the area.

A white SUV later crashed into a parked car in the parking lot at Verizon off Broadway and Highway 63. The SUV had 11 bullet holes in it.

At this time the suspect vehicle, a gray car, has not been located. Police believe the victims and suspect(s) knew each other.

Officers are currently searching for evidence of the shooting on E. Business Loop off of the connector.
