Jefferson City man sentenced for using app to entice a minor for sex

A computer information technician was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday for using an app to entice a minor to have sex.

A judge sentenced Andrew Clayton, 38, of Jefferson City, to 24 years and four months in federal prison without parole. Clayton was also sentenced to spend the rest of his life on supervised release following incarceration.

Clayton worked as a computer information technician for the state at the time of the offense.

He used the KIK instant messaging app to try to persuade a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity. Clayton messaged a minor in March 2015 who then contacted the Cole County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities searched Clayton’s home later that month. During an interview, Clayton admitted to having sex with several boys.

The FBI, Cole County Sheriff’s Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Department Cyber Crimes Task Force and the Missouri State Technical Assistance Team investigated the case.
