Nine weeks until Eclipse 2017

Eclipse 2017 is just nine weeks away and we continue our examination of how Mid-Missouri is bracing for the rare celestial event.

Last week, we told you NASA has selected Jefferson City as one of seven locations from which to broadcast the eclipse.

The Jefferson City Council has passed a resolution calling for limited enforcement of the city’s parking regulations on the say of the eclipse. That means you won’t get a parking ticket on Aug. 21 for an expired meter or other minor parking infraction.

Katherine Reed from the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau calls it a kind gesture. She says, “Parking is going to be an issue since school’s going to be in session and people will be working. So, I think the city is just really working with us and with the community to make sure everybody can come enjoy the eclipse and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

The city will continue to enforce penalties for illegal parking in bus stops and disabled parking spots, as well as blocking sidewalks and parking in no parking and loading zones.
