Possible severe storms Saturday evening

Storms are likely by Saturday evening and overnight as a cold front moves through Mid-Missouri. As this front moves into the very unstable, moist air, storms are expected to develop and expand into a line and spread southeast through the night.

Strong instability and moderate wind shear will allow strong storms to develop mid to late afternoon ahead of the front in northern Missouri. Clusters of storms could develop as early as 5 PM near HWY 24. These will be capable of producing large hail and damaging winds with a low tornado threat.

Heading into the evening, storms will become more linear and will pose a higher widespread damaging wind threat as they approach I-70 and areas south while the hail threat will decrease. The tornado threat will continue but will be very low with only an isolated tornado or two possible through late evening.

The main line of storms will continue to push south to near I-44 by 2 AM with continued scattered storms behind this line, gradually ending by early Sunday morning.
