MU reduces rec center, student union hours amid budget challenges

A number of facilities across the University of Missouri campus are reducing their hours as MU faces unprecedented budget challenges.

Those facilities include the Memorial Student Union, MU Student Center, Mizzou Rec and some campus dining.

MU spokesperson Christian Basi says the hours that were reduced were specifically identified as times when the demand for those facilities is at its lowest.

ABC 17 News reported earlier this month when UM System President Mun Choi addressed the budget for fiscal year 2018. More than 300 jobs are being cut at Mizzou, and some programs are being eliminated.

Here’s the full breakdown of the changes:

Memorial Student Union:

Closed on weekends for the summer (used to be open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Memorial Student Union and MU Student Center:

Will open at 9 a.m. Saturdays when classes are in session (used to open at 7 a.m.)

The Mizzou Store:

Closed on Sundays (used to be open 2-5 p.m. Sundays during the summer when classes were in session)

Residence halls front/lobby desk hours for summer:

Monday-Friday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. (previously 9 a.m.-10 p.m.) Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. (previously 10 a.m.- 10 p.m.) Fall and spring semester hours TBD

MizzouRec Summer 2017:

Monday-Friday 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (previously 5:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.) Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; Truman’s Pond only: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sunday 12:00 p.m. – 3 p.m. (previously 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)

MizzouRec Fall 2017:

Monday-Thursday 5:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (previously open until 11:00 p.m.) Friday 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (previously 8 p.m.) Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (previously 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) Sunday 12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. (previously 11:00 p.m.)

Campus Dining:

Baja Grill:

Monday-Thursday 11:00 a.m. – 8 p.m. (used to close at 11 p.m.) Friday 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturday closed (previously open from 4 p.m.-10 p.m.) Sunday 4:00 p.m. – 8 p.m. (used to close at 11 p.m.)

Emporium Cafe:

Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (used to close at 11 p.m.) Saturday-Sunday 12 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Rollins @Night:

Open every day from 6 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. (used to close Sunday-Wednesday at 1 a.m.)
