Overnight storms brought much needed rain, but with some storm damage

After a long streak without much rain, mid-Missouri saw storms track through on Wednesday night. As the line of storms made their way through, areas saw rainfall rates up to 1.5″ an hour. Nothing was severe, but some areas did see some minor storm damage.

As rain amounts in Macon county reached over 4″ the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning that remained in effect until 8:30 AM Wednesday. There was not major flooding on any major roadways, but sections of Highway 36 saw enough water overlying to prevent small cars to pass. Several low water crossings were flooded around the county and the Spencer Creek went above flood stage.

As the storms tracked to the south other areas in mid-Mo saw some minor storm damage. Winds were estimated at 46 mph in Marshall, which caused a 4 inch tree branch to come down on a building. In Tipton, more serious damaged was reported due to estimated winds up to 50 mph. Several trees down blocked roadways in Tipton, Clarksburg, and California.

By the morning storms calmed leading to dry conditions for Thursday afternoon. More severe weather is expected into the weekend, the majority of which expected through the evening hours.
