Moberly man charged with DWI after crash kills passenger

A Moberly man has been charged with felony DWI, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner and possession of marijuana after a single vehicle crash killed his passenger.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was called to a single vehicle crash on CRD 1235, north of Huntsville, on June 5. When the trooper arrived on scene, Jacob Gerhard was sitting on the side of the road next to a white 2008 GMC Acadia.

Gerhard told the trooper that he did not have any alcohol that day, but took nine to ten shots and drank half a bottle of moonshine the night before. Gerhard failed to pass the field sobriety test. During a search of Gerhard, the trooper found a hand-rolled marijuana cigarette, which he took as evidence.

Gerhard was later taken to the Moberly Regional Medical Center, where he gave a blood sample that tested .067 percent BAC. While at the hospital, Gerhard admitted to smoking a joint and to drinking a 16 ounce drink from Tropical Liqueurs in Columbia five hours before the crash.

When asked about the accident, Gerhard said that the victim who died from his wounds from the crash, Asher Kimbrough, opened the door of the vehicle and jumped out.

A second passenger that was int eh vehicle at the time of the crash, Shawn Reed, said that Kimbrough was riding on the roof of the vehicle before the crash.
