Two Illinois men named, charged after multi-county chase
Scott Thorburg and Nicholas Baldwin have been charged with drug trafficking according to Randolph County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Stephanie Luntsford.
Thorburg is from Waterloo Illinois and Baldwin is from Collinsville Illinois. They each have a $1 million cash only bond.
The men allegedly led police on a chase that began in Boone County in Columbia. They reportedly reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. They also went through the cities of Sturgeon, Centralia and Hallsville before the chase ended in Jacksonville in Randolph County.
Spike strips were deployed during the chase. By the end of it, the stolen vehicle only had one tire remaining. The vehicle is owned by an Illinois Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
According to Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies, the men had six pounds of meth in their car when they finally stopped the car. Police also allegedly found guns and money in the car.
Deputies believe the men were returning to Illinois from Kansas City.
The FBI is assisting in the drug investigation.
ABC 17 News contacted the Randolph County Jail for copies of the men’s mug shots, however they were not available.
