Greitens doesn’t rule out more special sessions

Gov. Eric Greitens said he is open to the idea of calling another special session in 2017.

The Republican governor said “all options are on the table” after the Missouri Legislature approved the subject of the special session that was called in May.

While the administration would not be more specific on which unfinished bills would warrant another extraordinary legislative session, Greitens said on the final day of the 2017 regular session that there is still a lot to be done on ethics reform.

The state legislature also came very close but failed to pass the Narcotics Control Act which would implement the nation’s final statewide prescription drug monitoring program — a measure that Greitens said he would be open to approving.

The last time a Missouri governor called two special sessions in one year was 2011 under Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.

Such a session typically costs taxpayers more than $100,000, according to clerks in the House and Senate.
