Man sentenced to life in St. Louis County shooting death

KMIZ

CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) — A 33-year-old University City man was sentenced to life in prison without parole after shooting an unarmed neighbor who came home drunk from a party. Thomas Clement was sentenced Friday for first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 31-year-old Larry “Peanut” Neal Jr. in July 2019. Prosecutors said Clement came out of his apartment in north St. Louis County with a gun after he heard Neal stumble into his barbecue and the apartment door. After the two men exchanged words, Clement shot Neal eight times. Clement argued at trial that the shooting was in self-defense.
