Unsettled weather pattern to bring cooler weather

If April were to end today, it would be the 8th warmest April on record, since the late 1800s. The average temperature so far for the month is 60.9 degrees, about 12 degrees warmer than what we experienced all March.

Even with the warm weather this month, we’ve seen our fair share of storms in the forecast that brought cooler weather. Those cool days were short lived, as the high angle of the April sun allowed temperatures to warm right back up.

Sunshine and warmer weather will headline the first part of this week, but by Tuesday evening the unsettled weather pattern returns to Mid-Missouri. This will bring not only a chance for strong storms, but cooler weather to close out April and start May.

Tuesday evening is already under a marginal risk for severe storms, as a cold front is set to approach Mid-Missouri. This will be a chance for large hail and damaging winds and that’s just the start of what will be a stormy and cool week.

The latest information from the Climate Prediction Center keeps Mid-Missouri on the wet and cool side as we head into May, which is good news as we head into prime planting season. With May being the time of the year we typically see our greatest tornado threat, you may want to enjoy the quiet weather while it’s around.
