Renovation projects approved for several schools in Jefferson City
The Jefferson City School Board has approved a contract to renovate the current high school along with the Nichols Career Center, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and Simonsen 9th Grade Center
The board unanimously approved the renovation project which is set to begin in May, costing around $134,800 to renovate.
The renovations at the current high school would include repairing a concession stand; renovations at Nichols Career Center would include fixing some classrooms that were previously occupied by State Technical College; renovations at Thomas Jefferson Middle would include replacing the gym floor, and fixing the roof; renovations at Simonsen would include fixing the roof.
The projects approved tonight were not part of the bond that was passed by voters last Tuesday.
Dr. Larry Linthacum explained that the renovations that were approved tonight were always in the works but since the bond was past last week, the school board will make sure the projects align with each other so no unnecessary work and money will be wasted.
“What was approved tonight was not a part of last week’s bond issue,” Linthacum said. “It does align with that bond issue to where there will not be wasted money.”
Linthacum told ABC 17 News after the meeting that he plans on drawing up a plan within the next 30 days to timeline both the major renovations to the current high school and new construction for the second high school. He said he would like to present that information at the May board meeting.
