No. 10 Florida State defeats No. 25 Mizzou 77-55 as Tigers bow out of NCAA tournament

Tallahassee, Fla— Florida State’s Shakayla Thomas scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as No. 10 Florida State eliminated No. 25 Mizzou from the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. The Seminoles beat the Tigers 77-55. This marks the second straight year Missouri has lost in the second round.

Four Seminoles scored in double figures. Mizzou guard Sophie Cunningham led her team with 17 points.

Missouri finished with 23 turnovers, including eight from senior guard Lianna Doty. The Tigers struggled with a thin bench, as Cierra Porter and Amber Smith battled foul trouble along with Doty’s miscues.

The Tigers were only down 32-27 at halftime. MU was able to hold Florida State’s leading scorer, Shakayla Thomas, to only four points. But the Seminoles shot 57 percent from the field in the second half,

No. 10 Florida State reaches the Sweet 16 for the third consecutive season.
