Columbia man arrested after fleeing from deputies

Boone County sheriff deputies arrested a 25-year-old Columbia man Saturday night after he lead deputies on a short pursuit.

A sergeant with the Sheriff’s Department said Clayton Wilcox was believed to be involved in an earlier incident that happened within Columbia city limits.

A deputy spotted Wilcox’s car around 9:35 p.m. and tried to pull him over, but Wilcox sped away. The sergeant said during the pursuit, Wilcox was throwing items out of his car that were related to the earlier incident.

The chase eventually ended in the 3100 block of West Willis Road after Wilcox stopped his car.

Deputies arrested him on suspicion of resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence as well as careless and imprudent driving.

According to online jail records, Wilcox is also facing charges of stealing and second-degree assault brought by the Columbia Police Department.

ABC 17 News is working to learn more about the incident Wilcox was involved in that eventually lead to the pursuit.

He’s currently being held in the Boone County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
