Sedalia firefighters respond to fatal crash and 3 fires over night

The Sedalia Fire Department responded to one fatal crash and three structure fires Friday night through Saturday morning.

Fire officials said that one fire started early Friday evening in the 1200 block of South Grand Avenue. They said it was caused by a vehicle that was on fire in the driveway. The outside of the house sustained moderate damage.

Sedalia firefighters then responded to a fatal vehicle accident in the intersection of 15th Street and Grand Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters also responded to a house fire in the 600 block of West 4th Street around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

The firefighters that arrived to the scene first found a three-story house visibly smoking, and on fire and a neighboring house, approximately six feet away, starting to burn.

The house that was on fire first was severely damaged, while the neighboring house had moderate damage.

The Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office was called to help determine the cause of the fire.
