Local man arrested in Springfield after altercation with a gun

Officers were dispatched to an incident involving a weapon in the 3200 block of Blue Grouse on Feb. 27.

The male victim, age 26, was at the residence when Justin E. Mahaney knocked on his front door. The male victim is currently dating Mahaney’s ex. The victim answered the door and Mahaney forced his way into the residence and pointed a gun at him.

The victim said he went into the living room, sat down and tried to talk to Mahaney. The victim said Mahaney pointed the gun at him and said they were going for a ride. The victim said when he reached for the front door he attempted to escape, and a physical altercation occurred in the street.

The victim said Mahaney struck him in the left temple with the gun and it took him to the ground. The victim said he was able to pin the gun to the ground and demanded Mahaney drop the magazine out of the gun. The victim ran away from Mahaney screaming, and was picked up by a neighbor in her vehicle.

The victim said the neighbor took him to the intersection of Providence and Rain Forest Parkway to call the police. Officers noticed abrasions to the victim’s left elbow, left knee, left temple and hands.

The victim said Mahaney gained entry into a residence of Mahaney’s ex in the 100 block of Ash Street and took two of his weapons. The victim said Mahaney told him he was going to contact Mahaney’s ex in Texas to return the guns.

Officers applied for a warrant and put out information to law enforcement because they had information that Mahaney was on his way to Texas. Mahaney was arrested in Springfield, Missouri.
