Warming temperatures, severe storm threat

TONIGHT: There is a chance of light rain south of I-70 until 10 PM. Skies will break up overnight with areas of fog developing as temperature fall to the low to mid 30s. Winds will stay under 8 mph from the southeast.

MONDAY: After some morning fog, skies will become partly cloudy and it will be warmer. High temperatures will reach the upper 50s to near 60 with a southeast wind at 6-13 mph. A chance of showers moves in Monday evening and overnight.

EXTENDED: Spotty showers and isolated t-storms will move in after 6 PM through 4 AM as a warm front lifts north through Mid-Missouri with up to a quarter inch of rain possible. Tuesday will be warm and windy with high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s, possibly breaking the record high in Columbia of 75 from 1972. Southerly winds of 15-20 mph will gust to 30 mph at times, giving us a higher fire risk Tuesday. There is a slight chance of t-storms by late afternoon which will increase Tuesday evening and overnight as a cold front moves through. Strong to severe storms are possible. Areas along and south of HWY 54 are in a Slight Severe Threat for Tuesday night and areas farther north in a slightly lower Marginal Severe Threat. At this time, damaging wind and large hail are the primary threats. Storms will move to near I-44 by 3 AM and out of the area. Another chance of light rain moves in from the northwest Wednesday morning. A brief period of snow or rain/ snow mix is possible north of I-70 Wednesday morning but accumulation is not expected due to above freezing temperatures.
