CPS committee meets for final time on middle school boundary issue

A Columbia Public Schools committee is scheduled to meet Thursday evening to make their final recommendations on redrawing middle school boundary lines for the 2017-2018 school year.

The boundary redrawing would move nearly 100 students students from Gentry Middle School in south Columbia to Jefferson Middle School near downtown. The move is designed to help alleviate overcrowding at Gentry.

The Middle School Attendance Area Committee will review online and written comments from residents Thursday. They will then make their final recommendations on the boundary lines to pass on to pass on to the Board of Education.

The board is scheduled for a final vote on the issue at its next meeting on Feb. 13.
