One girl sent to hospital after school bus-stop assault

A girl was taken to the hospital Monday after a bus driver pulled up to the bus stop and found her on the ground there. The driver then called 911.

Police said they arrived at the intersection of Garth and Pendleton, a scheduled Columbia Public Schools bus stop, about 6:45 a.m.

The victim was taken to the hospital; police do not have an update on her condition.

Two girls, ages 14 and 15, were taken into custody and police said they are facing charges of second-degree assault, which is a felony charge.

Columbia Public Schools spokesperson Michelle Baumstark said Monday there is a strong potential that the two teens could face disciplinary action within the district but per district policy, there will need to be a hearing to determine the kind of action taken.

Baumstark and Columbia police said they could not comment further on the incident because all three of the females are juveniles.

Part of Garth Avenue was closed down for about 30 minutes while police investigated. ABC17 News reporters on scene saw police talking with several witnesses.
